Portfolio > About Me

Three careers began in 1974: educator, explorer, and photographer. An English teacher and administrator in the Melrose, MA Public Schools, my interests in American literature coincided with the urge to wander the trails of New England mountains. Summer visits to the West expanded my horizons, especially in Washington State in the three outstanding national parks near Seattle: Olympic, Mt. Rainier, and North Cascades. Early photographic efforts were conducted with 35 mm and medium format film. Later, digital technology allowed me to create panoramic formats to more fully immerse the viewer in the scene. My end of the school year celebration became a day hike ascent of Mt. Monadnock NH with my students. In 2008 I retired from public education, developing this website along with exhibiting photographs in galleries north of Boston and in Burlington VT where I currently reside.
