The Railroad Grade trail ascends Mt. Baker from the south. The route climbs a lateral moraine near the Easton Glacier. This is the view that climbers see on their way to the summit. The "toe" of the glacier is readily apparent as the trail reaches treeline. This photograph really captures the feeling of being on the trail. It was a long day hike, total mileage about seven. An hour after taking this shot, the clouds dropped and the rains poured. It was a wet slog out, yet I met folks on the trail continuing to trek upwards.
