The Long Trail of Vermont follows the crest of the Green Mountain Range from the Massachusetts border north for 272 miles to the Canadian border. This image was taken at the 4000 foot level near Mt. Abraham and won a "First Prize" in the "Trail Scenes" category in the Green Mountain Club Centennial Photo Contest of 2010. I originally saw this scene with a hiking buddy as we trekked from Lincoln Gap to Appalachian Gap, a fourteen mile day. A week later I returned with less time pressure to look more closely.
